About me
Micah Winiata (Ngāti Ranginui, Ngāti Porou) is an experienced short film producer and filmmaker born in Tauranga Moana and currently based in Tāmaki Makaurau. With a slate of high budget narrative shorts and short nature documentaries and in the works, Micah’s most recent documentary LAST SHOT AT MESSENGER is on the festival circuit recently premiering at DocEdge 2023. His 2021 experimental non-verbal documentary TAIAO won Best Aotearoa Project at Vision Feast Film Fest and had multiple festival screenings at the Birrarangga Film Festival, Environmental Film Festival Australia, Wildlife Conservation Film Fest, Māoriland, and Wairoa Film Festival. He is currently in post-production on a high budget short film entitled PRINCE, which stars Beulah Koale, Ryan O’Kane, Madeleine Adams in the coastal town of Kāpiti.
Micah is on the team at Firefly Films and Tahi Production Services as the Producer’s Assistant on the films UPROAR (2024), BOOKWORM (2024) and is working on their slate of upcoming feature films, HOLY DAYS (2025), LOMU (2024) JACINDAMANIA (2025) as an Associate Producer. He is also the Programme Coordinator at Share the Knowledge and serves on the board of trustees for Film Bay of Plenty.
