About me
Kaitiaki is an Auckland-based Māori filmmaker who studied a Bachelor of Arts in Film, Media and Television and graduated in 2021 with a Masters degree in Screen Production, specializing in Directing. Kaitiaki was the writer, producer, editor and director of Matua, his debut short film which garnered critical acclaim and was awarded Best Fiction Short by a Māori Director at Wairoa Māori Film Festival, and received a Best Film and Best Director nomination in the Show Me Shorts Film Festival.
In 2022, he received funding from Someday Stories Series 6 to write and direct his second short film, Maumahara which was widely released on Whakaata Māori, RNZ and Stuff. It was also selected for the Māoriland Film Festival in 2023. His most recent work was as an editor for the Someday Stories 7 short film Tō Te Wai, directed by Georgia-May Russ.
