She is the founder of AcademyEX and led the first session of the day, presenting up-to-date information on AI tools relevant to the screen sector and an interactive session.
Rio Hemopo-Hunuki
Ngāti Tuwharetoa, Te Arawa, Niuē
Many will know Rio Hemopo-Hunuki as a musician, artist and bassist of TrinityRoots. Beyond his musical career, Rio is the founder and creative director of Koi Digital Limited, where he integrates AI into gaming and digital storytelling to enhance Indigenous representation. He is an Edmund Hillary Fellow and is pursuing a Master of Technological Futures at academyEX, illustrating the importance of education in ethical AI usage and promoting diverse cultural narratives in digital spaces.
Jermaine Leef
Jermaine Leef, a pioneer in social media distribution, integrates AI into his creative practice. As the owner of Manaiakalani films Jermaine uses AI for a range of tasks, from proposal writing, script research, and avoiding writer's block to administrative work, like creating schedules, visual mood boards, and pitch decks. Jermaine acknowledges AI's potential biases but sees it as a tool to enhance creativity, similar to Hekenukumai Busby's use of power tools - the use of new tools does not diminish the mana or wairua of the work.

Joffre Kopu
Te Atiawa
Joffre Kopu, known for his innovative work in event production, concept design, and his involvement with notable arts and music projects, including collaborations with Tame Iti and Salmonella Dub, is also passionate about utilizing AI in his creative practice. He believes art and music drive technology, and AI is a means to achieve creative expression. Kopu advocates for embracing AI to stay ahead, highlighting its potential in proposal writing, project development, admin, storyboarding, and post-production. He emphasizes data sovereignty and IP protection by using small, closed language models and training AI offline to safeguard data.

Xaviere Murray-Puhara
Ngāti Kahungunu Ngāti Porou, along with familial ties to Samoa, Tonga, Scotland, Ireland, and Wales.
Xaviere Murray-Puhara is a dynamic leader and innovator. As CEO and Co-Founder of kahu.code, a Māori-owned, father-daughter-AI-run software company, she shared about integrating AI with te ao Māori and indigenous cultures. Xaviere also co-founded Tech Taniwha to cultivate future tech leaders and is pursuing a Diploma in Māori Language Fluency. She actively participates in discussions on AI and Māori perspectives, including translating AI skills courses into te reo Māori and developing tools like Kaiawhina Reo and Whakawhiti Reo to support language revitalisation.
