Media Reform Discussion Document Contribute to our response

Kia ora e te hāpori o Ngā Aho Whakaari me Kawea Te Rongo,
The Government is consulting on proposed reforms to Aotearoa’s media sector.
Kia hiwa rā! Proposed changes could have significant implications for Māori storytelling, screen content and journalism. It is crucial that our voices are heard.
Ehara i te toa takitahi, engari he toa takitini. No reira, Ngā Aho Whakaari and Kawea Te Rongo are preparing a joint submission to advocate for strong Māori representation and protection of our interests, for the benefit of all of Aotearoa.
Te Tiriti o Waitangi must be at the heart of any future media landscape, and we need to ensure that these reforms actively uphold te reo Māori, strengthen Māori-led journalism, and support the continued growth of Māori screen production.
Your input will help us to create a response that reflects our sector’s needs and aspirations. We’ll identify key themes and may include anonymised comments, but no personal details will be shared.
The form below follows the format of the discussion document. You’ll find that the question regarding Te Tiriti o Waitangi, te reo and tikanga Māori is the last question! We have raised this with Manatū Taonga and asked that this is prioritised.
We know that you’re busy people. You don’t have to answer all the questions! Please share your thoughts in the sections you find relevant. Deadline to contribute to OUR submission is 5pm 17th March.
We encourage you to also make an individual submission directly to Manatū Taonga. Find out how to submit here: Media Reform | Manatū Taonga | Ministry for Culture & Heritage
